Analysis of free vibration measurement by mems accelerometer device on wind turbine blade

Many techniques for measuring vibration in both the rotating machine and the structure of the machine itself. Generally, these measurement techniques utilize conventional vibration sensors such as eddy-current, swing coil velocity and piezoelectric transducer. Current research provided a free vibration measurement analysis using a micro electro mechanical system (MEMS) sensor type on a small-scale wind turbine blade. A wind turbine blade with a tip mounted on two types of vibration sensors was hit at 5 different positions. The measurement results were changed from the time domain to the frequency domain for analysis. The experiment produced a vibration response with a difference in frequency value of 6% against the comparative frequency. These results indicated that the MEMS accelerometer type sensor can be applied to the measurement of free vibrations in the wind turbine blade.
