Estimation of Outage Duration for a Mobile Sensor Node

In wireless sensor network, mobile sensor nodes (MSNs) are moving randomly in the network and exchange their information with fusion node (FN) present inside the network. Due to random movement, it may happen MSN go out of the communication range of FN and the outage occurs. During the outage, the information sent by the FN to the MSN or MSN to FN is lost. The loss of information has a bad impact on the Quality of Service (QoS) and security. The prior knowledge of outage time would help to secure the information. In this paper, we estimate the time to occur the outage by using absorbing discrete time Markov chain model for the first time. The outage time is estimated for forward moving probability, backward moving probability. The estimation of outage time will help to ensure early precautions.
