Use of Smart Sensors to Monitor Working Conditions of Vanukov Furnace Cooling System

The paper objective is to review the raw process information acquisition system for the Vanukov furnace cooling system and to develop engineering solutions for its upgrading with the use of smart sensors. Smart sensor capabilities determined by IEEE 1451 and TEDS are revealed. The authors particularly noted the existing system weaknesses, i.e., a consolidated acquisition of natural analogue signals from a large number of resistance thermometers and lack of visual communication with the process environment or cooling water temperature visual representation. Improvement areas are determined for the use of TECHONICK® smart module system and TCT11 smart temperature sensors intended for the distributed automated process control system integration. The methods of wireless technology application within the network architecture as per ISA100.11a and WirelessHART are outlined. The use of proposed solutions for upgrading of the cooling system process information acquisition will allow measurement accuracy improvement and significant saving in erection works.
