Clustering Method of Fingerprint Flow Map and Coherence

Automatic fingerprint identification system (AFIS) is the automated method of verifying a match between two human fingerprints. It is the most sophisticated method of all the biometric techniques, and its various applications have been thoroughly verified. Fingerprints remain unchanged for the lifetime and are unique for each person. Estimation of orientation fields is an essential module in a fingerprint recognition system. Conventional gradient-based approaches are popular but very sensitive to noise, so, pre-and post-processing stages can markedly improve accuracy. We propose a new method to calculate fingerprint image coherence, ridge direction and contrast of the image using various cluster size. Experimental results are presented in the paper.
