Analysis of Performance of FSO Link During the Months of Rainfall in Bengaluru, India

Free Space Optical Communication(FSO) is a communication technology that operates on light propagation in a medium from one point to other. Climate of Karnataka presents an exceptional diversity where Bengaluru is the most famous city of Karnataka. Bengaluru is known as the Silicon Valley of India since it is an IT (Information Technology) hub, which increases the demands for higher and unlimited bandwidth for communication. This paper is focused on analyzing the performance of FSO communication system in Bengaluru when transmitting data during the months of heavy rainfall i.e. June to September. To calculate rain attenuation, Marshal and Palmer model has been used for transmitting the data using NRZ modulation scheme, performance of the FSO link has been analyzed in terms of various factors such as BER rate, Q factor and received power for different link ranges.
