Maximizing GHz-MIMO Data Throughput by Optimization of Multi-Wire Transmission Line Port Impedances

This paper presents a new perspective of matching a specific GHz-multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) multi-wire transmission line (MWTL) with a source and load impedance network. Impedance matching depends on the frequency region of interest, the impedance network configuration (NC), and the user-defined transmission mode. A cost function is used as an optimization criterion, which takes these dependencies into account. The NC is composed of differential and single-end port impedances. The port creation process is realised by the newly introduced port transformation matrices. Local optimization of the cost function is performed by variation of the complex-valued port impedances using an extended gradient descent algorithm.
