5G Beam Steering Patch Antenna Array at 6 GHz Through MEMS Switching

This paper reports a linear phased patch antenna array system that work at 6 GHz frequency with capacity to transmit at lower 5G (USA) WiFi-6 ranges. The proposed design incorporates H-plane beam steering ability using phase shift time delays and Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) path switching. Furthermore, the paper will present theoretical simulations, and some proof-of-concept results from physical testing of manufactured designs. The proposed design is based on the physical phenomena surrounding microstrip radiation and engineered control. This paper provides a breakdown of the proposed architecture, with supporting evidence through extensive simulations, and where applicable - physical testing.
