Determination of Installed Power of Autotransformer Phase Number Converters to Improve Electromagnetic Compatibility

At present, powerful converter devices based on semiconductor converters are widely used in the industry, so the actual problem is to ensure their electromagnetic compatibility with the electric mains and the load since the operation of such devices is characterized by a negative reverse effect of the semiconductor converters on the mains because of the consumption significant non-sinusoidal currents containing higher harmonics. The negative effect on the load is due to the occurrence of significant DC voltage pulsations degrading the quality of electrical energy and the performance of the DC consumer being fed. To solve these problems, the authors developed an autotransformer phase number converter for supplying a multi-pulse rectifier, which makes it possible to provide the consumption of a virtually sinusoidal current and suppress ripple of rectified voltage with a simpler circuit and reduced installed power of such a converter, in comparison with known analogous devices used for these purposes. The article proposes the developed technique and calculates the installed power of the new device, and compares the results with known converters. It was obtained that the created complex has a smaller installed power and a smaller number of windings, which will reduce the use of active materials and the cost of such devices.
