Features of Electric Mode Control in Shaft Electric Arc Furnaces and Electric Arc Furnaces Equipped with the Consteel System

The article considers the features of electric mode control for modern shaft electric arc furnaces and electric arc furnaces with continuous scrap charging by the Consteel conveyor. Both types of furnaces are characterized by the problem of thermal overload of the water-cooled panels and refractory lining in the hot zone of furnace. This problem resulted in increased wear and decreased interrepair cycle. The problem can be solved by the setting of optimum asymmetric mode through parameterization of the balancing coefficients in the electric mode control system. Optimum values of the balancing coefficients may be determined with the special method, based on the mathematical model of electric arc furnace. Nevertheless, model-based results should be implemented in practice to validate their efficiency.
