Induction Motor Drives for Electric Mining Shovels: Synthesis, Design and Research

The drives of electric mining shovels are characterized by cyclic operation with alternation of energy consumption and recuperation processes, a random variation of active and reactive loads, a wide range of operating speed variation, a frequent locking of mechanisms. The article presents the results of development, research and industrial operation of a new AC drive system for shovels developed by ≪Joint Power Co. Ltd≫ (Moscow). Using of engineered adaptive observers of speed and flux in the main motion mechatronic systems provides a speed adjustment range of more than 500, a stable operation of a hoist drive at zero speed in the bucket positioning mode, target values of transient performance and high energy characteristics of a shovel. The experimental results were obtained for a mining shovel in the ≪Taybinsky≫ quarry (Kemerovo region, Russia).
