Influence of Intermediate Transformers on Energy Performance of High-Voltage AC Drives

The paper analyses how intermediate transformers affect the energy performance of high-voltage AC drives. The system was simulated by means of Matlab Simulink. We used known methods to calculate the equivalent circuit parameters for transformers and AC drives. We've analyze the angular-velocity transient response quality indicators obtained during engine acceleration. Based on the circuitry we had designed, we analyzed the dynamic losses in transformer-based and transformer-less systems. We compared the cost of systems with low-voltage and high-voltage inverter cells. It was found that intermediate transformers had insignificant negative impact on the energy performance of the system. Economically, the effect may amount to 2.5 million rubles.
