Optimal sizing of grid connected microgrid in Morocco using Homer Pro

To support the international efforts climate change mitigation, Morocco is committed to rise renewable energy, to achieve energy saving and to mitigate Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. Morocco has engaged to supply rural areas with access to electricity dependent on the use of available Renewable Energy Sources (RES) to diminish GHG emissions. Appropriate combination of generation units and storage devices will lead to optimal system design in terms of system technical feasibility and cost. In this paper, the objective is to optimize a MG sizing for rural community buildings in Grid Connected (GC) operation mode, based on technical and economic analysis. The MG under study includes Photovoltaic (PV), Wind Turbine (WT) and Diesel Generator (DG) as generation resources and Battery Bank (BB) as the storage devices. The load data are corresponded to a rural community buildings, and the solar radiation and wind speed data are corresponded to the city of Tahla, Morocco. Simulation results outline the effectiveness of the proposed approach for optimal conception of a GC-MG.
