A Modified Hexagonal UWB Antenna Loaded with Multiple L-shaped Stubs for GPS Band Integration and Like Y-Shaped Slot for Single Band Rejection

In this communication we present an UWB hexagonal modified antenna with GPS band integration (Global Positioning System 1.57GHz) and upper WLAN rejection (wireless local area network 5.8GHz). The GPS band is integrated in ultra-wideband (UWB) design when the regular broadband design is charged by multiple inverted L-shaped stubs with different size and position. To avoid the exist UWB systems interference with this antenna, the upper WLAN of 5.72-5.825 GHz is rejected by loading a novel like Y-shaped slot within the radiating hexagonal element. The bandwidths of the proposed antenna are 1.3 GHz-1.6 GHz for GPS and 3.5 GHz-10 GHz for UWB except the range of unwanted WLAN band (5.72 GHz-5.825 GHz). Both the CST microwave and HFSS 3-D EM solver are used for the simulations to validate against the obtained results. Obviously, the radiation patterns of the presented antenna are still similar to the bidirectional radiation pattern at the middle frequency bands with little fluctuation in the upper bands. The antenna gain is acceptable over both GPS and UWB bands. In the band rejected regions, the gain minimized about 4 dBi at 5.75GHz from its normal value.
