Design and Implementation of a Super WiFi Transceiver Based on TVWS Regulations Using CR Technique

This paper presents the design and the implementation of a super WiFi frontend transceiver based on TV white space (TVWS) regulations and cognitive radio (CR) requirements. The TVWS is the frequency band that is not used by any TV broadcasting station in certain time and location. The CR system can be used to prevent the interference with TV channel stations and to use the available TV band in a more efficient way. The CR system needs two main requirements to use the TVWS. The first requirement is the knowledge of the available channels in its location using sensing and database techniques, and the second one is the ability to change its transmission parameters such as the baseband modulation, RF carrier frequency, and RF transmitting power. The proposed design enables the super WiFi system to operate over the TV frequency band ranges from 470MHz to 850MHz, where the RF frequency, the transmitting power, and the receiver gain can be changed to satisfy both CR system and IEEE802.11af standard.
