Research on Large Current Interruption of Solid-State Switch for a Hybrid DCCB

Solid-state switch is the key component of current interruption for the hybrid dc circuit breaker (DCCB). This paper presents a novel hybrid DCCB topology with opposite voltage coupling module (OVCM), and the characteristics of different topologies for solid-state switch are theoretically analyzed and some experiments have been carried out which figure out the problems of the existing topology. A novel optimization topology composed of series-connected IGBTs and diodes bridges is proposed to design the solid-state switch with advantage of low cost, low stray inductance and large current interruption capability. A new prototype of solid-state switch demonstrated a successful current interruption of above 25kA, which verifies the performance of the proposed topology.
