Stacked Gated Nanofluidic Logic Gate Membrane

The objective of this work is to model and experimentally verify the molecular transport of charged molecules in a novel AND nanofluidic logic gate. Two nanoporous membranes with gate-insulator layers were placed between two reservoirs with asymmetric target molecule concentrations, controlled by independent electrical gates at both openings. When the dimension of the fluidic channel is comparable to the thickness of the electrical double layer, the potential generated by gating becomes significant, which allows control of diffusive transport of charged molecules through the nanochannel modulated by electrostatic repulsion and attraction. The simulation and experimental results using two independent gates show that the stacked gate structure implemented a nanofluidic AND logic gate for the charged molecular transport.
