An Indirect Space Vector Scheme for IMC applied to PMSG based Wind Energy Conversion Systems

This paper presents indirect space vector modulation scheme for Indirect MatrixConverter(IMC) applied to Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator(PMSG) based wind turbine. The modulation method uses both current modulation and voltage modulation in the matrix converter's rectifier and inverter stage respectively. In direct matrix converter the rectifier and inverter stage space vectors are combined whereas in IMC they are decoupled and applied to the respective stages. This results in less complexity in the generation of the switching pulses for the bidirectional switches. The efficiency of the converter is studied at different wind speeds and at different frequency levels at the input side. There is no need for the intermediary capacitors or dc-link capacitors for regulation of the output of the rectifier stage.
