Electrical Distribution System Power Loss Reduction and Voltage Profile Enhancement by Network Reconfiguration Using PSO

This paper mainly focuses on the best feeder reconfiguration of distribution system network by changing tie and sectionalizing switches maintaining the radiality of the network, in order to improvise the system efficiency w.r.t. the maximization of voltage profile and minimization of system losses. The optimization of the system is carried out by using Particle swarm optimization (PSO) to find the best switching pattern which leads to minimal loss confined to all equality and inequality constrains allied to distribution system. In this paper IEEE-33 Bus distribution system is taken for study and the results obtained are compared with the one with optimization with Genetic algorithm. The outcome attained illustrates the improvement in voltage profile of each bus and reduction in loss profile at each bus when compared to the values of base case.
