Nature-inspired algorithms for Optimum sizing of hybrid photovoltaic/wind generator

An optimal sizing of the hybrid generator is an important step to minimize the electricity cost and guarantee the permanent availability of energy supply the load energy requirement. This paper discusses an optimization solution of a stand-alone hybrid generator with a storage system for covering the power demand of offshore petroleum platform in Zarzis, Tunisia considering reliability indices and power balance constraint. The major purpose of this study is to develop an effective method that called Grey wolf optimizer (GWO) for optimizing size of standalone hybrid photovoltaic/wind system (PWHS). The results are compared with some Nature-inspired meta-heuristic techniques such as particle swarm optimization approach (PSO) and firefly approach (FA). The simulation results show that grey wolf optimiser is the most effective algorithm and achieves better results than the alternative optimization methods.
