Evaluation and Simulation of Colon Cancer Treatment Techniques with Fuzzy PROMETHEE

Colon cancer is a malignant tumor that manifests in the inner wall of the colons, which is the lengthiest portion of the large intestines. Most common colonal cancers are adenocarcinomas which are tumors that start in cells that manufacture and give out mucus including other various fluids. Common instances of colon cancer start as small and benign (noncancerous) clusters of cells named adenomatous polyps. Overtime the clusters may develop into large tumors. Colon cancer can be named rectal cancer depending on where it started, and together to be named colorectal cancer since they have features in common. A broad term that encompasses all is bowel cancer. Almost all types of cancers found in the colon are adenocarcinomas however there are some unusual types of cancers which are primary colorectal lymphomas, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, leiomyosarcomas, carcinoid tumors and melanomas. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer found in men and second in females after breast cancer worldwide. Treatment/ prognosis (chance of recovery) is dependent upon the patient's general health, whether the cancer has recurred, whether there are cancer cells left after surgery and the stage of the cancer. The aim of this study is to comparatively analyze some colon cancer treatment techniques which include radiation therapy, chemotherapy, surgery, immunotherapy and hormone therapy. Fuzzy PROMETHEE method was implemented to analyze the treatments on various factors which include costs of treatment thus encompassing machinery costs, survival rates and side effects. According to the results surgery is the best option for the treatment of colon cancer. This study can be customized according to the patient's condition to obtain more specific evaluation results.
