Solar Energy Integration with New Boost Converter for Electric Vehicle Application

Solar energy is facing challenges in its integration with automobile systems due to their variable nature. Therefore, it highly demands inclusion of a battery in electric vehicles in order to overcome its weaknesses. This paper integrated PV array and battery with the DC link of the motor drive system for solar-powered electric vehicle applications using the New Boost converter, which uses only three power electronic switches. Here, the voltage regulation of the DC link using battery along with the MPPT of the PV array by the P&O algorithm is implemented by controlling the switching signals of the New boost converters. The power-sharing analysis between battery and PV array in different temperature and irradiation conditions along with battery charging by PV array for diverse load conditions is carried out in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The advantages of adopting New boost converter for solar powered vehicles in comparison with other converters are also presented.
