Performance Enhancement of Electric Vehicles using Vector Controlled Multiphase Induction Motor

This paper presents the performance enhancement of an Electric vehicle on implementing Indirect Field Oriented Controlled (IFOC) Five-Phase Induction Motor Drive as its propulsion unit using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Engagement of multiphase induction motor in place of three-phase induction motor significantly improves the motor drive performance in terms of average torque, power and energy requirement during the EV drive cycles. Percentage improvement of energy with significant reduction in torque ripple towards vehicle dynamics is developed by the drive. Simulation analysis is carried out on the developed torque and effective speed tracking capability of the model under standard drive cycles. Energy requirement under standard drive cycles is calculated and the results are illustrated.
