Integrated power converters for innovative wind turbine generators

Integrated power converters that consist of induction generators and electronic units, are described. They are perspective for autonomous application, wind turbines in particular. Squirrel-cage induction generator has innovative compact winding with construction features. Windings with irregular cross-section conductors are brand new approach of machine’s design and they open possibilities for further improvement of electric machines. New construction of stator winding defines new methods of machine design. Resistance and end-winding leakage calculation is explained, the same as efficiency improvement. Reducing of size and mass of the induction machine is strongly relevant for small renewable energy installations and electric vehicles. Reduced overhang deviation allows to place electronic control units within the machine housing. Operation principle of electronic units is described. Direction of further researches in innovative compact induction generators is pointed.
