Development of Automated Microcontroller-Based Lighting Control System For Indoor Room Implementation

Nowadays, the construction of modernization buildings with the capability of reducing the energy consumption has become the major demand. Most of the building are built with the large window panels to allow the penetration of the natural sunlight into the room, which indirectly, can reduce the usage of artificial lightings in the building during the day as well as reduce the electricity expenses. Therefore, in this paper, a light control system with the help of the embedded microcontroller has been proposed to increase the efficiency of the energy consumption in the building. The system is customized by initially measuring the natural light in the room and this result an efficient lighting control adjustment to tune the LED bulb to achieve the desired light intensity. The light in the room is controlled by dimming its intensity through the usage of the various resistant value in the circuit. The experiments were carried out on three different activities such as nap, leisure and study, which require different light intensity levels for a better and comfortable environment. The analysis of energy consumption with and without control system is discussed for these activities. It is found that, the embedded lighting control system that is proposed in this paper can reduce the energy consumption approximately 50 percent from the normal practice.
