A Multiport Solar-assisted SRM Drive for HEV Applications

Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) provide a feasible compromise between emission-free transport and limited range of travel. In this work, a multiport converter for SRM HEV is presented which integrates GCU power, Battery power, PV power, Grid supply and Switched Reluctance Motor in order to achieve multiple driving and charging modes with the the help of machine winding inductance and on-board power electronics. The multiport converter is derived from a Modified Miller converter (MMC) for closed-loop speed control of SRM and two switches at the front-end side to interface the Battery and GCU. Three junction relays are employed to connect and isolate these multiple ports under various operating modes. Multilevel voltage is achieved in EV driving mode whereas EV Battery is charged at unity power factor from Grid or by using the PV power at Maximum power point(MPP) during EV stand-still condition. The SRM static characteristics for modeling purpose is derived using Ansys Maxwell 16 and the PV power is maintained at MPP by incorporating the Incremental Conductance(InC) algorithm. The working of the complete system under various modes is verified by simulation results.
