A Review on Performance Analysis of ZFS & BTRFS

The expansion of businesses, facilities and services over Internet with technologies like Cloud computing, Big Data, IoT, Grid computing, etc. has given meteoric rise to data generation and so its massive utility. This growth demands high processing power, high availability, expeditious storage & memory management, data retrieval, security and proper backup. The emphasis is hence on the storage with filesystem as its backbone. Filesystem by governing the rules of data storing and retrieval, addresses our concerns of this demand. The two most promising storage filesystems- ZFS and BTRFS, both claim to deliver the performance by serving in their own featured way. This paper presents a survey of the study done on these filesystems for different frameworks based on IO performance on different real-life workloads, working over volume managers, hypervisors & disk accessing protocols and other performance parameters.
