Performance Analysis of Multi-hop Cooperative System under κ-µ Shadowed Fading Channels

In this paper, we investigate the performance of multi-hop cooperative amplify-and-forward network over independent and non-identical κ-μ shadowed fading models. The κ-μ shadowed fading model is generalization of κ-μ multipath fading model in which dominant components undergo shadowing based on nakagami-m distribution. The existing fading models like Rayleigh, Nakagami-m, rician etc., are obtained from the κ-μ shadowed distribution. In this paper we adopt moment generating function(MGF) based approach to evaluate the average bit error probability (ABEP) expression in the multi-hop system. In addition, the asymptotic ABEP expressions derived to evaluate the performance of the system at high signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). By using the obtained asymptotic ABEP, two optimum schemes namely optimum relay positioning(ORP) and optimum power allocation(OPA) schemes are discussed. The effect of increase in number of hops between source and destination on ABEP is investigated. Further, the impact of optimum power and optimum relay location on system performance are analyzed. Finally the comparison of analytical results are done with montecarlo simulations and the numerical results match quite well.
