Effective Segmentation of Sclera Region from Eye Image Using Contour

Sclera vascular patterns can also be considered as one of the biometric for human recognition. Sclera vascular patterns are unique to every individual and they are internally situated thus hard to spoof. In this paper, we proposed an effective segmentation for color images of eye. Firstly the color images are converted into grayscale then the grayscale image is binarized. After pre-processing, iris part is detected using Otsu's binarization and sclera part is effectively segmented using contour in the eye image. The standard database used for testing is UBIRIS.v1, where only wide open eye images are used for sclera region segmentation.
