Correction of Wind Effect on Quadcopter

Wind is the most influential factor in terms of quadcopter's aerodynamic movement and stability. The airflow around propeller and the wind from natural surrounding can cause turbulence. Analysis on propeller's airflow and quadcopter modeling in wind tunnel were done to maintain quadcopter stability, especially in hover mode. A 16 inch propeller was used to discover the magnitude of drag-lift coefficient and drag-lift force by modeling and varying the air velocity. The results was used for wind tunnel modeling analysis. A quadcopter in hover state was placed in the middle of the tunnel and the wind blowed horizontally between certain velocities. Using Comsol Multiphysic software to analyze the air velocity condition on each propeller, the effect of turbulence such as yaw and pitch movement alteration was determined. Angle alteration between 5 to 30 degrees was analyzed to ascertain the magnitude of force necessary to maintain a stable position while hovering. Wind correction factor measured through forces on three axes was used to help orientation sensor in maintaining desired altitude and attitude.
