A Report Automation Program to Adjust Contract Amount Due to Price Fluctuation

Escalation is a system to mitigate unexpected burdens on either side of a construction contract due to changes of the total construction amount caused by price fluctuations after the public construction contract. In order to adjust the contract amount due to price fluctuation, the contractor should prepare a price fluctuation report that calculates price changes for all the items and items of expenditure that make up the construction amount and adds up the changes, and request additional construction amount to the ordering party. The preparation of the report is usually done manually by experts using the Excel program. We designed an automatic report generation system and implemented the module that classifies the items of basic unit price level into item categories and upper level classification. Each item category has a price index used to calculate price changes of items classified into the category. The module also has functions of inserting item classification information into an item database and correcting prices of items at the basic unit price level. This work seems to be the first try in Korea to automate the escalation report generation.
