Radio-Friendly Building for Efficient Signal Distribution

Radio signal propagation is one of concerned topics for researchers, communication industries and network providers. Lots efforts are dedicated for radio planning, such as propagation models, power control techniques and network planning approaches. On the other hand, radio users within offices and commercial places often suffer radio signal difficulties as building architectures and builders still do not consider signal propagation in building plan. Technically, repeater solution is sufficient to solve the matter and many related methods have been proposed. However, it is practically difficult to implement as the frequency license is a separated issue. It is suggested that radio-friendly building should be integrated in building plan. Starting from minimizing signal obstacles, room with windows, reflector and passive repeater, to multiple floors building with void. Study shows building materials significantly absorbs radio signal, wall holes or windows increase the received signal level, reflecting materials in room interconnection space help signal propagation, repeater and void forward signal to lower floor.
