Towards the Development and Realization of an Undetectable Stealth UAV

This work discusses the procedures of building unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) with stealth capabilities via multiple noise reduction techniques and attached sensors. Conventional methods of constructing stealth drones capable of automatic obstacle detection with no RF transmission employed computationally expensive methods such as on-board image processing, radar detection and various other expensive sensors. Aside from evading different types of radars, noise reduction is crucial in UAVs as achieving a complete state of stealth implies that the object be silent. Noise reduction, however, is a challenging task due to UAVs nature of using either electricity or fuel as its primary power source in causing directed thrust. By testing propellers of various specifications, we found the propellers with the drone-dependent modifications that allow the UAV to emit less noise. The drone we built in this paper has reached desirable performance in noise reduction and obstacle detection with an affordable light detection and ranging (LIDAR) sensor and 3Dprinted propellers with different specifications for reduced cost and simplified build process.
