Harmonic limit compliance: issues associated with harmonics modeling and simulation

Issues associated with harmonics modeling and simulation are of paramount importance for assessing compliance with harmonic emission limits. In many cases, simulation software with only basic functionality can lead to acceptable results. However, other cases demand a more rigorous approach that includes many advanced modeling and simulation techniques. It is up to the engineer to determine "when to do what". This paper, in conjunction with the others in this series, is intended to provide guidance on this issue. The approach used here is example-based. Various alternative study approaches and the associated assumptions are used to indicate the variety of answers that can easily be obtained. Which answer is "right" and which answer is "wrong" typically reduces to a question of the validity of the assumptions made when conducting the study.
