Research Challenges on Device to Device Communication: A Technology for Next Generation Cellular Network

There is a continuous requirement to increase the capacity of cellular communication system. Device to Device communication is a technology of upcoming generation cellular network i.e. 5G network, in which two devices can directly communicate without taking the part of the base station as cellular network communication do. Direct Device-to-Device communication will improve the efficiency of frequency spectrum, throughput with the reduction in power consumption. In the coming years the cell phone users will be increased enormously and they will demand higher frequency spectrum and higher data rates. Device to Device communication is an upcoming next generation technology which will provide all the above requirements of the user. This paper presents an overview of Device-to-Device (D2D) communication and its challenges like Power control, Device Discovery, Resource allocation, and Interference management.
