Dynamic QoS-Aware Resource Allocation for Narrow Band Internet of Things

Narrow Band Internet of Thing(NB-IoT) is 3GPP's cellular technology designed for large-scale deployment of machine-type communications(MTC). NB-IoT can provide better indoor coverage, support of a massive number of low-throughput MTC equipment(MTCEs) with lower energy consumption on a narrow bandwidth of 180kHz. An important challenge to be addressed in NB-IoT is servicing a massive number of MTCEs while satisfying the quality of service (QoS) of the MTCEs. In this paper, a dynamic joint spectrum and slot QoS-Aware resource allocation algorithm is proposed for overcoming the challenge above. Specifically, in order to get better performance and increase spectrum utilization, we divide the overall equipment into two types which are delay sensitive(DS) equipment and non-delay sensitive (NON-DS) equipment according to QoS requirement. Then we formulate a joint sub-carrier and slot allocation problem to maximize the number of MTCEs satisfying the QoS. Moreover, simulation results show that the proposed algorithm could significantly increases the number of successful serviced equipment and achieves a good wireless resource utilization.
