Earthquake Damage Intensity Scaling System based on Raspberry Pi and Arduino Uno

Indonesia is one of the many countries with one of the most frequent earthquakes. Generally, in Indonesia earthquake damage level measurement is conduct by direct observation. However, the vibration intensity level of an earthquake could result in different levels of damage. Hence, a damage intensity scaling system plays important roles as measuring damage impact caused by an earthquake. Therefore, in this paper we proposes a design and development of a low-cost damage intensity scaling system based on microcontroller and microcomputer. The proposed idea is to record the damage level intensity data, distribute a valid data, and send an early warning if the earthquake damages is severe. This system hardware design utilizing MPU6050 Accelerometer sensor and a potentiometer as a vibration detector. This system use Telegram API and MQTT protocol to send sensors data to end user. The results of the experiment shows that our system has an average 3.17% of difference with the more sophisticated system owned by Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of Republic Indonesia.
