Application of Master Stability for Improvement in Synchronization in Complex Networks

Synchronization between dynamical systems is an important nonlinear phenomenon and its study has gathered significant attention in past few decades. The power system can be severely damaged if any generator falls out of synchronization. Thus, maintaining the synchronous state of generators in a power system is of utmost importance for normal operation of power grids. The paper analyses whether all the generators in the system synchronize with each other, its relation with network topology and under what condition is this synchronization stable. To analyze the synchronization stability of the system, master stability function is used. Control schemes are developed to test the steady-state stability of interconnected power grid and the results are compared for designing a stable power system. The relationship between the synchronization stability and the interconnection pattern of the grid is considered to optimize the network interlinks. The analysis shows that network interlinks between nodes play an important role to enhance the synchronization stability. The outcomes are implemented on 39 nodes New England System.
