Energy Conservation in Textile Industries by Replacing Rewound Motors – An Energy Audit Study

Textile industry operation requires the use of three phase AC motors. These motors are used in both utilities & process of textile industries. More than 75% of the total available electrical load in textile industry is contributed by AC motors. Rewinding after burning of motor's winding takes place very commonly in this sector. In present study, root cause analysis of motor burning is done and its effect on motor performance is also analyzed. This paper also covers the comparison of rewound motor efficiency with an energy efficient motor and after how much rewinding; the old motors should be replaced by a newer energy efficient motor.
