Fault-tolerant brushless external-rotor motor for fuel pumps

The purpose of this work is to develop and study a fault-tolerant brushless external-rotor motor for aviation fuel pumps. The article presents an analysis of the design features of a fault-tolerant multi-phase brushless external-rotor motor with specific power of 5 kW/kg. Specific power is estimated taking into account the mass of the fault-tolerant brushless external-rotor motor and its control system. In addition, the paper shown the design and finite element analysis in the ANSYS Maxwell software package. The efficiency and fault-tolerance of the proposed brushless external-rotor motor for aviation fuel pumps is proved based on the finite element analysis.
