Characterization of Switchable Two Notched Metallic Parallel strips FSS Using WCIP Method for Multiband and dual Polarized Applications

A novel multiband switchable filter FSS (Frequency Selective Surface) for dual polarization applications is presented. To analyze the proposed structure, the WCIP method(Wave Concept Iterative Procedure) is adopted. The design is based on two notched metallic parallel strips of different sizes. For an x - polarized exciting source, the proposed structure is characterized by two resonant frequencies at 8 GHz, 11.6 GHz with bandwidths of 1963.1MHz and 79.4MHz respectively. For the orthogonal polarisation, two resonant frequencies are shown at 4.2 GHz and 7GHz with bandwidths of 1064.3GHz and 1301.8GHz respectively. The fine tuning of the structure ensured by the variation of its dimensions results in the tuning of the resonant frequencies. A structure resonant frequency can be eliminated only by inserting a PIN diode switch. A comparison between the WCIP results, the COMSOL Multiphysics 4.3b and the HFSS softwares results reports a good agreement.
