Improving Routing in Vehicular Ad-hoc Network with VIKOR Algorithm

One of the main challenges faced by inter-vehicle networks which in recent years has increased dramatically is the self-configuration. In order to improve the self-configuration, we need to design an efficient routing protocol. The Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol is one of the most widely used routing protocols in Vehicular Ad hoc NETwork (VANET). This routing protocol finds the shortest path between the source and destination vehicle. Since the shortest path between the source and destination is not known as the best route all the time, in this paper, we used VIKOR that is a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) method, to choose the best route from the available routes. The VIKOR algorithm helps the destination vehicle to choose the best route by analyzing parameters such as path length, path delay, the quality of received signals and relative speed of vehicles. The simulation results showed that the proposed method could increase the throughput and reduce the end-to-end delay.
