Reed-Solomon Encoder Design by Means of the Digital Filtration

Nowadays RS-encoding find wide application in many technical fields, such as digital telecommunication standards, memory storage system etc. The RS-codec can be hardware implemented as part of System-on-Chip (SOC) in FPGA or ASIC. In case of ASIC, SOC is used for many technical tasks, for example it can consist of the memory storage system like SSD and the digital communication unit like SDR (software defined radio), so both of these require ECC (error-correcting code) codec like RS, BCH, LDPC etc. Preferably that one codec can offer many standards with different error correcting capability (ECC) just not to use many codecs with large hardware costs.This article proposes a method to change correcting level capability. This approach allows using all digital filtering advantages, such as to split one big order filter to many first-order filters, pipelining to improve performance.
