A Mathematical Model of the Univentricular Fontan

The Fontan procedure is performed in pediatric patients with congenital anomalies of the heart when only one ventricle of the heart function. During the operation, univentricular circulation is created, as a result of which the left ventricle becomes the only ventricle. The article describes a model of normal blood circulation of a pediatric patient, consisting of two ventricles, two atria, systemic and pulmonary circulation. The model is changed: the right side of the heart was removed from the blood circulation and replaced by a conduit; the resulting model corresponds to the Fontan circulation. The parameters of the models were chosen according to the theory of electro-hydraulic analogy. The simulation results that we obtained correspond to normal values. The described models can be used to simulate various physiological states of the cardiovascular system of pediatric patients.
