Mathematical Modeling of an Automatic Control System for Profiled Rolling of Slabs in Reversing Plate-Mill Stands

One promising way to save metal consists in rolling slabs by means of plate mills with adjustable workpiece shape. Implementing this technology for the existing mills requires developing an automatic control system for the profiled rolling of slabs. This gives rise to the problem of mathematical modeling for studying such a system. This paper presents a brief description of an automatic control system for BBL rolling profiles. It also dwells upon structuring the dynamic model of a mechatronic system consisting of hydraulic screwdowns and an automated reversing-stand electric drive, both being part of a plate mill. The paper summarizes the model of hydraulic screwdowns. It dwells upon the dynamic model of the metal-bound coupling between the electric drives and the hydraulic drives as derived by approximating the dependency of power parameters on the absolute compression and rolling speed. Presented are the results of simulating the profiled rolling of slabs. It is proven that the control system of the present design provides the required accuracy of rolling profiles. The model is thus recommended for analyzing the profiled rolling as performed by the roughing plate-mill stands.
