A Graph Based Metric To Calculate Significance of Ontological Concepts

Semantic similarity is a special case of semantic relatedness. There are many methods available to design semantic similarity measures based on domain ontology. In this paper, a method to assess the significance of concepts in domain ontology is proposed. The significance value shows the worth of the concept, which can have major contribution in integration, knowledge extraction and many other knowledge engineering fields. The study based on concepts significance in ontology, models concepts' usefulness. We introduced a method for measuring semantic relatedness by knowing the density of each concept by calculating its significance value. In addition, our approach considers a very important property of graph to calculate the degree (in-degree & out-degree). The case study is provided to demonstrate the usefulness of our work.
