Jammer Nulling Adaptive Waveforms with Cognitive Radar for Aircraft RCS Recognition in Presence of Frequency Sweep and Base Jammers

In this paper, we introduce jammer nulling transmit-adaptive waveforms for aircraft target recognition with cognitive radar (CRr) platform in the presence of frequency sweep and base jammer noise. The sweep jammer nulling and base jammer nulling adaptive waveforms serve as a countermeasure against frequency sweep jamming and base jamming signals which are intended to disrupt the CRr's ability to correctly classify in an aircraft target response identification problem. Real-time adaptive waveforms are computed using jammer incorporated probability-weighted energy (PWE) or probability-weighted spectral density (PWSD) method via scaling of waveforms matched to RCS responses corresponding to the target hypotheses. High-fidelity EM aircraft RCS responses are used in the experiments. The results show an improvement in jammer nulling waveforms' classification performance over their jammer-uncompensated counterparts and the receive-adaptive wideband pulsed waveform. The extent of performance improvement depends on the shape and magnitude of target frequency responses relative to the sweep and base jammer spectrum.
