Study on Residual Life Prediction Method of Basin-type Insulators Based on Activation Energy

Gas-insulated-switchgears (GIS) are becoming more and more popular in power systems Among them, basin-type insulators have been subjected to aging degradation under the effect of electrothermal stress for a long time, and serious accidents may be caused in severe cases. The degradation of basin-type insulators is actually a chemical reaction process. Therefore, it is important to research the thermal decomposition process of basin-type insulators. And the material properties of the basin-type insulators can be analyzed by experimental data obtained by thermal analysis. Furthermore, the Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method is used to calculate the basin insulator's activation energy, whose result is 200.96 kJ/mol, while the value is 199.80kJ/mol by the Kissinger method and 208.41 kJ/mol by the Coats and Redfern method. Life of the basin-type insulators materials can be predicted using kinetic parameters. The thermal analysis of basin-type insulators has certain guiding significance for revealing the aging mechanism of basin-type insulators and evaluating pot life of basin-type insulators.
