Sensorless Wind Speed Control of 1.5 MW DFIG Wind Turbines for MPPT

In the paper, the wind speed estimation (WSE) is used to extract the maximum power from a wind energy conversion system (WECS) based on 1.5 MW DFIG. The wind speed is estimated from the measured rotor speed. The optimal shaft speed is based on wind speed. In addition, the Model Predictive Control (MPC) is applied to track the rotor speed and find its optimal value under the wind speed variations. The simulation results stated that the proposed MPPT method can generate optimal rotor speed for extracting the maximum output power.
