A Wideband Polarization Reconfigurable Antenna with Six Polarization States

A wideband single-feed crossed-dipole antenna with reconfigurable polarization states among right-hand circular polarization (RHCP), left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) and four linear polarizations (LP) at 0°LP, 90°LP, 45°LP and 135°LP is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of two pairs of bowtie dipoles, a pair of slim rectangle dipole and a metallic square reflector. The polarization states are controlled by ten PIN diodes. Stimulation results demonstrate an impedance bandwidth (BW) of 35.3% from 2.05 to 2.93GHz for all polarization states. The 3dB axial ratio BW for CP states is 40.4% from 2.25-3.39GHz. In conclusion, the overlapped bandwidth is 26.25% from 2.25 to 2.93GHz. The stimulated gain within the bandwidth is greater than 6.6dBi and the cross-polarization values relative to co-polarization is less than -13dB.
