Development of the iBeacon’s Positioning Algorithm for Indoor Scenarios

In future mobile communication systems the most of data usage is expected within indoor environment such as big entertainment and shopping centers, subway, etc. Therefore, the positioning in the big building becomes more and more popular. Existing GPS and other positioning systems can't provide a target accuracy for the indoor due to high complexity, low reliability and high price for deployment. Therefore, new development in this area is needed to leverage other technologies for positioning information, such as WiFi, Bluetooth, mobile technologies, etc. In this paper, we introduce the new approach for indoor positioning system based on iBeacon technology. We have analyzed the accuracy of iBeacon systems for indoor scenarios taking into account the signal attenuation on the most common obstacles. The performance of the proposed system has been analyzed by the real experimental measurements in the indoor environment. Finally, we have developed the new machine learning based algorithm to improve the accuracy of the proposed system.
